My approach to teaching piano to children of all ages begins with knowing and honoring the individual child. Before we meet, we talk about your child and his or her interests, personality, favorite music, and past musical experience. Does she pick out melodies by ear? Does he like to sing? Does she thrive with structure? About how long is his attention span? Is she easily frustrated? Does he learn quickly or does he take a slower, more measured pace?
All of these questions are carefully considered before your child’s first lesson. I design an ongoing curriculum based on your child’s unique personality, talents, and needs, combining an ear-based approach with a note-reading approach in a way that is best suited to your child’s learning style. Piano Adventures method books are the only method books I use; however, we will occasionally detour from the method book to explore your child’s interests or to pay particular attention to developing a foundational skill.
Lesson length varies with each child, with a 30-minute minimum and a 50-minute maximum.
